Another year at council has come to an end and I hope I am making my constituents proud. It has been a tough year trying to make cuts that will prevent us, the taxpayers, from paying anything higher at tax time. With so many increases in residents’ MPAC assessments, our job as councilors has become even more crucial. We will start into budgets and it will be ever more important to evaluate every dollar spent. As we enter into another year, I hope that I can get the support from the other 7 councillors to keep increases at an absolute minimum. I hope all of us take the time to be vigilant and look at fresh ideas that could save everyone in Norfolk County on their tax bills.
I always welcome ideas from constituents. and encourage everyone to come forward with information and innovations that can prevent any further increase. Active participation in Municipal Politics is your democratic right and you should never be afraid or deterred from expressing your opinion.
With the holidays fast approaching and the hustle that ensues, it is easy to forget about those whom are less fortunate. I would like to remind everyone that every small donation, whether monetary or non-perishable, to the food bank helps. Donations help ensure that families in Norfolk County have food on the table this holiday season. Take the time to help in whatever way you can. Donating old clothes, foodstuffs, or simply holding a door with a smile can add joy to someone’s holidays.
I would like to thank all of our community volunteers for another year of hard work. These volunteers provide so many different services to our community and add to the beautiful atmosphere we all love. The dedication shown by these individuals is what binds our community. If you do have some free time, I encourage you to join a service club of your choice for a rewarding and fun experience.
Take a few minutes to thank our local OPP, Fire Department and EMS. While a number of us are enjoying family time and taking vacation, they are still on call to keep our families safe. Although we all pray we do not require their services, we know that they are ready to respond if the need arises.
I would like to wish everyone a safe, happy and prosperous holiday season. Remember to fully appreciate the love of family and friends as you gather together. I look forward to a new year, new ideas, new policy and a continuously improving Norfolk County.
